PRESS RELEASE 27TH January 2010

WALSALL PEOPLES’ APPEAL FOR HAITI LAUNCHED

Following the earthquake in Haiti, two local charities Midlands International Aid Trust ( MIAT) and Oak Tree Trust have joined together to commit to the longer term support to help the local people of Haiti who survived rebuild their lives.

One director of MIAT Mohammad Aslam ( MBE) flew to Haiti ( at his own expense) last Thursday taking personally money for emergency relief and helped establish a mobile hospital which has already cared for many mothers in childbirth. Aslam returned Tuesday 26th January with direct links established to longer term projects for a school rebuild and an orphanage . There will be a street collection in Walsall Town centre this Saturday 30th January to launch this longer term relief effort which will take potentially a number of years commitment by both charities

‘ We appeal to the people of Walsall to give generously as they have in the past , to support the long haul to support their fellow human beings in Haiti rebuild their lives. We take aid not sides helping without favour to any particular creed, religion or ethnic group.’
